“The water can’t be very deep; it only comes half way up those ducks!” My dad was always a bit of a joker. For a duck, the depth of the water is irrelevant.

For us humans, of course we have to learn to swim in the shallow water, but after that, it’s simply a matter of confidence; if you can swim in shallow water, you can swim in the deep.

It’s a bit like that in the spiritual realm. We learn to trust God in the smaller things, then as our trust in him grows, we can push out into the deeper things of God, or the more difficult situations. If we have developed our ‘faith muscles’ then we can swim there too.
